Moving is easy. Packing is Easy. Cleaning is EASY, in fact I dare say I enjoy a sterile clean place with nothing in it. Wiping down walls and vacuuming is therapeutic for me.
The hard part is the emotional side of things.
Last Tuesday Ty walked out of class bawling his eyes out. His teacher gave me a sad look when I picked him up. His sobs were loud, his tears were big, his beautiful blue eyes had puffy red underneath. I asked him what happened? Tuesday was the day that Ty and Mrs. Stolberg decided to tell the class that the 18th was his last (maybe?) day at Harmony. It wasn't so sad right then, but Ty started telling a lot of people about it, including the Librarian. When the Librarian heard, he wouldn't let Ty take his book home. He told him he HAD to keep his book at his desk. When in 1st grade, taking home your library book is a BIG deal. He couldn't bring his home and I think it really hit him what was happening. Ty's teacher spoke with the Librarian and told her that Ty couldn't take his book home. He started crying in the library and didn't stop until we got home. He begged me not to move. He told me he liked his classmates, he liked his teacher (he's come to REALLY like his teacher) he likes being a Harmony Husky. Why couldn't we find a house? Why do we have to move? I like my friends here. Of course, my vision started to blur from tears as he's sobbing and begging in the back seat.
He calmed down a bit, Matt came home from work, I was telling Matt quietly about Ty's difficult afternoon when the phone rang. It was Ty's teacher to tell me about what happened. She told me over and over how much she'll miss Ty in her class with his bright smile, his infectious laugh and his eagerness to learn. She says he is a very intelligent little guy (he's recently taught himself division and beams when Mrs. Stolberg lets him tell the class that 460 divided by 4 equals 115 and explain how he got that answer.) She got a little emotional about it so of course I got emotional again.
It's all really close to the surface. My heart is light and happy one moment then slamming against my ribs and forcing my tear ducts to explode the next. Not because I am worried about me, but because I wish my family didn't have to go through this, that my sweet loving 6 year old doesn't have to change his whole life.
Change is hard.
Why do we have to do all this? Promise, we've prayed and prayed. We never felt good about any other option but this one. Tough to explain to Ty though that we feel the best about separating our close family for who knows how long and that everything will work out.
I have filled out the paperwork and Ty will have his first day at Lone Pine in a couple weeks. Luckily it's Spring Break for the Medford folks when we move down so my mom planned a Utah trip then. Ty is really looking forward to that, to hang out with his Utah cousins. He is excited to live with Grandma and Grandpa and live by his Spence cousins.
My mom has been just wonderful planning Maylee's Birthday party and inviting all our Medford friends and cousins too for the following weekend.
Tomorrow we put as much as we can in storage and we'll continue packing, cleaning and moving through out the week.
This Sunday is our last (maybe?) in our current Lacamas Creek ward. I'll have mixed feelings, the problem is we don't know if it'll be our last or not. Who knows? Only God knows, it's all in His hands, He knows and we know He knows. It'll all work out and it will be the best possible solution for our family.
