So here is the long version...
For the last, ohhh year and a half or so, Matt has been getting sick, a lot. He usually NEVER got sick but recently the toilet has been his buddy because he yacks so much. It usually happened in the Summer before and only on the weekends. A Saturday or Sunday night he would wake up not feeling so well then in the early morning just start yacking for about 6 hours, every 20 minutes... then he would fall asleep for about 3 hours wake up and be fine! We always attributed it to heat exhaustion, maybe food sickness or a bit of the flu. This has happened about 7 or 8 times this year all ready, doing quick math that is about every other week or so... wow.
Last Monday was the final straw, he was sitting at work with his head in his hands for about an hour when he lost it (yes at his desk, in the trash can) so he was sent home. As he began his ritual puke fest I thought, I think there is something more to this then heat exhaustion because he CHUGGED the water all weekend and he is STILL sick! It can’t be a bug because neither Ty nor I ever get it. So we finally took him to the Dr. TURNS OUT Matt gets KILLER migraines, so bad that he pukes… a ton. Matt always thought the headache was the side effect of the nausea due to dehydration, turns out the nausea is a side effect of the headache! He says he always thought Migraines would hurt worse than his headaches did so he didn't think that's what it was. While at the Doctors he got a shot to make the current headache go away and a pill to make his nausea go away. He felt MUCH better soon after.
After the Doc started prescribing stuff explaining at the first sign of a migraine he needs to take a certain combo of pills depending on the time of day and what his responsibilities may be, Matt asked what might trigger them because he can never tell when they are coming on.
That’s when the comedy started,
The Doc asked, "Has there been any major changes in your life recently?"
Matt said "No, not that I can think of..."
Doc: "Let's start with work, anything there that would be stressful?"
Matt: "I did start a new position last September where I had to learn a whole bunch of new stuff, plus I've got a few things coming up, so yeah I guess"
Doc: "That could do it...Is that your only child?" (pointing down at Ty guy)
Matt: "Yeah"
Doc: "How old?"
Matt "10 months"
Doc: "That'll do it...Are you able to take the rest of the day off work and relax tonight?"
Matt: "Yes, I have the rest of the day off work but I have school tonight"
Doc: "You go to school and work?"
Matt; "Yes, both full time"
Doc: "Uhh THAT will do it! Make sure not to take _______ tonight then, it will make you loopy and tired"
Me: "Yeah he has a final tonight so he REALLY shouldn't be taking anything that will make him loopy"
Doc: "IT'S FINALS WEEK? That'll do it for sure! Are you LDS? Do you go to church on Sundays for THREE HOURS?"
Matt: (insert chuckle) "Yes"
Doc: "I go to my church for ONE hour a Sunday and get run down, that could explain why you get them on the weekends, any changes at church?"
Matt: "Yeah, actually, I have some new responsibilities and I am just trying to get organized..." (Called as Ward Clerk a month or so ago)
Doc: "That'll do it too, so sounds like almost anything going on with you right now could set you off, I suggest you relax a little more. Your body is working so hard during the week that by the weekend you just break down"
As we left we thought about all the work-outs, basketball, triathlon training, ball golf, disc golf, seven peaks passes and play practices he does on a weekly basis or we have coming up in the summer... Good thing we didn’t mention all that! Matt relax!? HAHAHA He IS relaxing when he does all that extra stuff. Can't imagine it any different! Now we are armed with drugs and a vacation is in the near future...for some RELAXING times of hiking, mountain biking, swimming and SUN.
Glad we finally figured out why he was getting so sick though, turns out full steam ahead for years on end will do it to you. Now between the migraines and the days where he throws out his back he only has a few sick days left for the year and it's only April... yeesh.
Jason keep those "Please bless MATT, Ty and Mickie that they wont get sick" prayers coming, we'll be needing ya the rest of the year....

Too Fast
Well I am pretty sure Ty is growing too fast! He has started to actually play with kids, rather than just watching. He LOVES to play with his cousins and friends, especially Sierra because she crawls around on the floor with him and she shares (okay takes then replaces with a different one) her toys with him.
Also Matt has been teaching him to throw and to give high fives. It seems like he is going to be left handed, then the next day he throws right handed. I think it will be another year or so before we figure it out for sure.
He likes to throw everything now, his pacifier, my cell phone, ANY type of ball. If you hand him something and he doesn't want it, he'll throw it... We'll have to work with him on that part, to learn was IS and ISN'T appropriate to throw.

Tender Mercies Tuesday: Parenting
I have been thinking a ton about parenting and it seems like it's been a hot topic recently in the spheres in which I associate. I think to myself “What should I do when Ty touches something I don’t want him to touch, should I slap his hand? Should I just tell him, No? Should I ignore it? Should I just take the thing away or move it out of his reach? Should I do a combination of all of the above?” All of these questions on top of the typical things that new parents run into, especially moms become tough. Should I bottle feed or breast feed? Should I help them fall asleep every night or let them cry it out? Should I send my child to pre-school? Should I run to their aide every time they cry? Should I teach my child sign language? Should I be buying the “MY BABY CAN READ” series? Should I feed them only organic food? Should I have them on a strict schedule? How soon should they be eating table food? What about consistent nap times? When should I potty train? How can my child be the smartest most awesome, well adjusted, beautiful, kind and loving kid on the planet?
Does anyone else ever get overwhelmed with it all? What to choose!? How to do it all?! What is my parenting style?!
Then I sit and listen to other moms, see what they do. Some just kind of feel it out and roll with the punches deciding in the moment then on the other end of the spectrum are the parents that are SO opinionated and insist that there is NO OTHER WAY that any child should be taught… quoting some that say, “if you don’t do __________ you won’t have a special bond with your child and they’ll be messed up for life!” or “If you do this then they will always think you are a push over!” BLAH and the list goes on and on of “If’s and then’s” so judgmental! When I became a parent I had NO IDEA there were those crazy parents out there with SO MANY opinions… I don’t think it matters what you do, there is always someone with the exact opposite position as you.
Here is my “ah ha” light bulb tender mercy moment this week.
It was really bothering me so I started to pray about it, because A) I realized I needed to repent of thinking, “this is the best and only way of doing it” and thinking that “others may have been doing it wrong with their kid” and B) What exactly is my way of parenting but more importantly how would HE want me to parent? Then I received a thought and a feeling, God sent Matt and me our beautiful little Ty guy for us as parents to teach, with prayerful guidance. Matt and I were sent Ty specifically because He knew we were the best possible parents for him. He could trust us with him. Things aren’t the same with every child, some need more this or more that, or some respond better to one thing over another. As a parent it is my job to prepare Ty to be that fine upstanding kind and wonderful child of God that I know he is and that our Father in Heaven wants him to be.
I have all ready recieved some revelation on what I need to be doing better or changing and have put it into action, it's awesome :)
It doesn’t matter how anyone else does it, it only matters how we decide to do it. I still think it’s a good idea to glean from others and read tons of different books, even chat with other parents about how they do it all when you are stumped or want new ideas. Of course in the end you just go with what is best for you and your child.
Also I want to apologize to any of my family or friends out there who I may have offended because of my parenting ideas… You parent how you are guided and want to parent! :) You are the best Mom or Dad for that Child ever! Just keep on keepin’ on, all you parents out there. It’s tough but SO rewarding.

Hello Dolly Call Back results
Well we all got our calls yesterday, I DIDN'T get the part of Minnie Fae, BUT neither did the other gal who auditioned at call backs. The lady who got the part we tried out for actually auditioned for Irene Molloy. What happened was there was a battle at the top for the part of Dolly. The gal who didn't get the part of Dolly, but whom is still VERY talented got the part of Irene Molloy and the gal who didn't get the part of Irene but who is still quite talented got the part of Minnie. Makes sense to keep as much talent in the main rolls as possible.
So, Suzanne and I are cast as dancers and in the chorus for the play, Matt is cast for both of those too PLUS he was cast as Cook 1. He is still up in the air as to whether he wants to do it at all.
I think i'll do it, and I am pretty sure Suzanne will too. (Wink Wink Suzanne) I think it would be fun and just something different to do for a while. Plus, we might get to wear cool dresses and feathers in our hair, wouldn't that be fun?

Yes, we're alive
We made it...
(Does it look like the end? Nope this was the beginning and it was early)
(Transition Area Quick Pictures)
The swim was a little crazy. We went last because we knew we were terrible swimmers. Turns out there are WAY more terrible swimmers then us! You were supposed to swim on the right, ONLY PASS on the left. It was crazy with these people just zig-zagging all the way down the lane. Suzanne and I both FORGOT to put our goggles on so we jumped in with out them on our eyes. I caught mine Suzanne lost hers. I heard Matt asking her where her goggles were, so every stroke I was looking for her goggles at the bottom of the pool. I spotted them about 100 meters into the race and I dove down for them. I popped up and threw them on the side. During my swim back down the next lane I told Matt in between breaths to give Suzanne her goggles. Matt ran around to the other side of the pool and handed them to her. Preston said the pool part was the worst.
(Hopping in the pool for the swim portion)
(Getting out and running to the Transition Area)
The bike totally ROCKED us, well me anyways. You know how I mentioned those expensive road bikes being way better? BOY WERE THEY! Even Suzanne’s bike with road tires was better then my Mountain Bike. Those hills were grueling and tough. I stuck with Suzanne pretty much the whole way but people with road bikes were flying past us on the hills. Preston LOVED the bike potion he said it was the best part. I thought it was the worse.
(Leaving on the bikes)
The run was weird for the first 1/2 mile, Jell-o legs were interesting to deal with, but that was the part the was the best for me. If I saw anyone ahead of me I passed them. I tried to take mental note of some of the people passing me on the bike so I could catch them on the run. I caught quite a few of them. I could have ran faster too, now I know for next time in Arizona. Suzanne said the RUN was the worst part for her. We were with one another the whole way until then, Suzanne said I turned a corner and I was no where to be found.
(Leaving for the Run)
(I ran back after I was done to go find Suzanne and finish with her)
Preston did the bike so much faster then us that Matt only got a blurry picture of him coming into the finish line from behind, not even worth posting.
It was a great first Tri, now I know where to train more and where I can push myself harder. The run and the bike had TONS of hills and the one I am doing in AZ in a few weeks has little to none. I am thinking I should be able to SMOKE it down there because of my hill training and higher elevation training. Plus I will be borrowing a better bike too. Now I just need to really focus on the swimming and to NOT FORGET to PUT ON my goggles. :)

So Long, Farewell
I bid you all adieu; I don’t think I'll be blogging anymore after tomorrow, because well, I was a freak who decided a Triathlon was a good idea. Suzanne, Preston and I may not make it through and we'll all be half dead after just the bike portion.
Last night we went and drove the running and bike portions of the race to get a good idea what we are up against tomorrow. We should have trained for more HILLS on the bike! There are some CRAZY HUGE hills! The run doesn’t look like it will be too bad but I think we'll be so numb from the bike ride we wont even feel it.
Here is the bike elevation, 2 KILLER BUM BUSTIN' HILLS! Yeah sure the middle there is down hill but practically straight up right after!
Remind me again why I signed up for this and thought it would be fun?
Good thing Suzanne and Preston are doing to do it too, I don’t think I would have made it this far with out them. Hopefully tomorrow Suzanne and I can stick together and make it through. I say Suzanne and I because I am sure Preston will be off like a rocket because he borrowed a road bike from his brother making life easier for him. Suzanne and I like a challenge none of this top of the line thousands of dollars bike stuff for us we prefer the $100 Mountain bikes we picked up at Wal-Mart, that will really get the blood pumping.
Wish us luck!
Race starts at 8:30 am we'll probably be crossing the finish line between 10-10:45, that is, if we make it… if any of you want to come cheer us on it would be MUCH appreciated!

Tender Mercies Tuesday: Disguised
Two weeks ago I was SLAMMED at work. I worked about a 40 hour work week and was dying. There was so much that had to be done and I had to put in the hours to finish all my work. Usually I work about 20 or 25 hours a week.
Last week, Ty got sick. Monday night he threw up, then Tuesday, then Wednesday. Thursday he was doing better but he wouldn't drink ANY liquids... he wouldn't on Friday either. He was constantly crying, constantly wanting to be held. The mornings were good because he would wake up and drink a little, but by the afternoon and evening he was grouchy. Nights were long and trying for both Matt and me. One particular night both of us were up and at our wits end... Matt gave him a blessing and he slept for about 4 hours, HALLELJAH! He would wake up starving but wouldn't drink anything! After a week of lack of sleep I decided to take him in to the doctor.
Dr. Duffy said surprisingly he is still pretty well hydrated for the amount of liquids he had been drinking he said yes it will be a long another couple days but you'll get through it and he'll start to eat more soon. Gradually he has been eating more and now he is about back to normal.
Where the Tender Mercy lies is the fact that while Ty was sick work was put on the back burner... I didn't have time to work because my Mom job was going on overdrive. First of all my employer was SO understanding and they hobbled along with out me until I came back (which this week is going to busy again trying to catch up) and second that I had all those extra hours the week previous that my paycheck wont be any less than it usually is, normally that would be fine if it was less but with our trip to Arizona coming up it's nice to have a little extra gas money.
I have been totally stressed the last two weeks, but now that I can see... the Lord has his ways of making everything the best it possibly could have been after all is said and done.

Special Edition Matt Post: Casting Call
What do you do on a Friday night, when you have no plans? You go audition for the city musical, of course. Mickie, Zannie, and I decided it was a good night to check another item off the bucket list. Many of you, if not all of you, should be asking yourself, “Why?” Our answer is, we have no answer. The old adage goes, “if you want the same old results, keep doing the same thing.” There was no harm in just trying out. Though none of us have any desire to actually be in the play, we just had a desire to try something new and see what happens. I think each of us certainly stepped outside of our comfort zones. Personally, I am proud of Zannie. I honestly didn’t think she would show up to do it with us, but she did. Each of us has a unique, comedic story that goes with our individual auditions. I will give a very brief overview of mine.
Mick and Zannie went first and Mick told the 5 judges that she had dragged Zannie and me into the auditions. Boy that makes ‘em really want to hear us out. As soon as I walk in they say, “Oh, you’re the husband. So your wife dragged you in here, huh?” I said, “Yep, I’m married, getting dragged into things is what my life is all about.” They got a good laugh from that, but I’m sure they laughed harder after I was done singing. I thought I was prepared to sing until they asked if I had my sheet music. I froze, thinking to myself, “Oh Sheet!, I forgot my music and I can’t remember what I was supposed to sing.” I had to quickly excuse myself and run back outside to Mick and Zannie and ask for the computer, because that is where my music was. I came back in and sang “You’ve Got a Friend in me,” which you would think is an easy song, but I found a way to change some of the words and the entire tune. I was hitting notes I’m sure they had never heard before. After that, they asked to me to hum my musical range along with the piano. (Note: Poor Suzanne didn’t get asked to hum her range. Try not to bring it up, it’s a touchy subject.) The next question stumped even me. “Do you have any musical background?” Are you really asking that!? I just botched “Your got a friend in, What was the next line?” and you are asking me if I have any musical background!? Yea, tons, can’t you tell. Were they supposed to be surprised that I had no musical training? I thought that was painfully obvious.
There was an acting and dancing audition as well, after the singing audition, which may have earned me the part of a stage prop, maybe a tree or something. So, no worries there, my acting career is not quite over yet. All in all, I actually had a great time on our Friday evening musical adventure. If I could recommend one thing that I learned from this experience, it is this; do something that may challenge you, or take you outside your comfort zone and you might end up surprising yourself how fun it can be. Michael Gelb a personal development consultant said, “... by stretching yourself beyond your perceived level of confidence you accelerate your development of competence.” It is truly a short life, don’t pass up an opportunity to stretch yourself, even if it sounds ridiculous.

Duh Mickie, TONER!
So I attempted to touch up my own roots yesterday... never tried that before. I can do anyone else's hair but my own. It took about an hour and after I was done I realized its pretty dang tough to do! It didn't look TERRIBLE but it wasn't very good. The bleach pulled brassy in some spots and WAY light in others... and I had a few hot spots too... yikes! Luckily on my hair bleach fades REALLY fast so I wasn't too worried about it, it would have been totally fine in about a week. However last night, while I couldn't sleep (yep you read that right I am turning into a full blown mom!) I kept thinking that I missed something... then I remembered "DUH, Mickie, TONER!" so first thing this morning I went and got some Toner. Ahhh now it looks so much better, it evened out my color and the hot spots are gone. Whew! That was close!
In other news Ty guy is feeling much better today... getting into everything and crawling around with a little plush basketball hanging out of his mouth by the tag. He's always gotta have a ball with him when crawling around the house.

The Latest Installment
Adventures in Parenthood! We borrowed this nifty gate from some friends of ours... ohh we love it. We can now let Ty roam free upstairs.
Hopefully soon he'll figure out how to go down and up the stairs safely until then we have this! Good thing it's tall cause he pulls himself up on everything these days. :)
p.s. Ty is one sick little man with the flu, I dont think he's ever been so cuddly in his entire life. The plus is he took two THREE hour naps yesterday and still slept through the night. Bad news is he puked ALL OVER Matt when he got home from school last night... I hope he feels better soon.

Tender Mercies Tuesday: Instinct
In General Conference someone shared a story something like their 3 year old daughter some how got over the side of a ship they were sailing on, she fell 40 feet into the water, the father immediately cleared his pockets and jumped in after the girl. While he was in the water and looking for her, another stranger jumped in and helped him find her and pull her to safety. They got back to shore and the stranger disappeared into a taxi cab, never leaving a name or anything. The family was so thankful that he noticed and helped.
I wondered what it is that Matt has inside of him to realize, "There is a problem and it doesn't matter who this kid is in the water, I've got to go help." It was an instinct, he said he was ready and willing to jump in the pond and only had time to slow at the last second after seeing the mom pull the child out of the water. To be honest, makes me feel safer being his wife and the mother to his children. He is quite aware of his surroundings and ready to help in a risky situation at a moments notice.
So really this one is a Tender Mercy for that mom in that park on Saturday that she and other random strangers noticed some flailing arms in the pond that Saturday afternoon. It’s also one for me in the example of my husband: when others are drowning (physically OR spiritually) and when arms are flailing and water is splashing, it should not be our nature to sit and watch or go in the other direction, there is no time to think it through, go change into our swim suits or to grab a towel… we need to just run and help as fast as we can.
I thought about that as Matt told me of his experience on Saturday. He and Will were competing in a Disc Golf Tournament. They were at the park again having just gotten back from lunch, standing on the edge of the parking lot. Matt was just in the right positioning to see between trees and out of the corner of his eye that a little boy was kind of frantic... looking into the small pond, then he noticed a ton of splashing. In a split second he took off running as fast as he could towards the water. He got there just moments after the mother arrived at the scene to pull her child out of the pond water and save them from drowning.
(Pictures found on 1000 things to do in Provo)
Matt's instinct was to run and help, not sit and watch, or even go the other direction. Sadly, as Matt was walking back he noticed some other people looking on just a couple yards away and even a family sitting on a blanket eating their picnic lunch minding their own business. There was another Disc golfer that took off running with Matt too, he was a little ways behind Matt but just as willing to help he must have seen from the other side of the trees. If it caught Matt's eye from all the way across the park you would THINK that those other people sitting there or in closer proximity would have seen or heard before Matt would have. Most people were just watching it all happen in front of them. Matt didn't even end up getting the child out of the water or even speak to the mother, but he was there and ready to help if they needed him. Howdy Folks
Yeah this is a bit of an older picture, well around the last week of March. Our dentist gives you a token after you visit him to get a little toy out of the little Toy Machine things... anyways he has fake mustaches in there so Matt used his tokens to get some. He got a mustache for Ty and one for him...
I thought it was stinkin' hilarious... :) My two boys, silly as ever.

Tender Mercies Tuesday: Latest Edition
Yes, Yes, I know maybe I should just change it to Tender Mercies Wednesday... Tuesdays are always SLAMMED!
Well and another part of my procrastination was due to the fact that I had SO MANY this last week. I mean come on it was CONFERENCE weekend, seems like every talk I heard was going straight to my heart... I could be SUCH a better person....I'm working on it! I'll save all those for other days. I'll just share the quick one that happened last Friday.
Matt and I were cleaning the house, jamming out to our country hits on Pandora.com, a certain song came on and Matt picked up Ty to walk upstairs and was belting out the song singing to him. I'm glad he didnt look at me come the chorus cause there was a tiny tear in my eye. Matt is the best Dad that anyone could want! Man he LOVES our little Ty guy to death I am pretty sure the words to this song ring true with my two boys. :)

Happy Easter
Michaela sewed each one of the boys matching ties as an Easter gift. Getting all these boys to look in the same direction let alone smile big at the same time was impossible. These are as good as it gets though. Love all of these boys.

Dont you worry Grandpa, prints of these pictures will be coming your way soon.

Fully Trained
Whelp, Ty is full on crawling everywhere. He hasn't figured out how to hold something in his hand while crawling yet though, so this scene has become very familiar.
Happy Easter everyone :)
I hid, he was chasing me, then I snapped the picture as he came squealing around the corner. To say he was suprised by the flash of the camera was an understatement.
This weekend is conference weekend, Matt's brothers and their families are coming to visit!

Our new friend Michael
Here are tons of pictures and videos from the concert! Matt and I were sitting on the farthest side on stage right, The box seats above us weren’t even sold so we went and sat up there, it was okay by the concert people. It was nice cause we sat in WAY comfier seats and sat over a little bit too :)
Yeah I know we look silly: I have a fake smile and Matt's smile is a "let's make this quick" one.
Michael's opening act was "Naturally 7" a vocal play group that sang acapella, they were really good but to be honest it got a little boring near the end... yes it's impressive they use their voices for everything but when you don’t know their songs it's hard to get excited.
He said... "Hello, what is your name?"
She said "Miranda"
It was a great, fun, family friendly concert. I enjoyed all of his music! He kept picking grown men out of the audience and would say, "You thought I was gay huh, turns out i'm not! I just like to wear suits all the time and jump up and down while clapping Haha" then he followed it up with, "I'm sure most of you know, but some of you may not know. I actually recently got engaged! Yes, I am not quite married yet but I am wearing a ring because in Argentina, where my Fiance is from, both the guy and the girl wear the ring during engagement... wait, at least that's what she tells me..." then he shrugged his shoulders. HAHA I thought that was great.
At the end he shut the big white curtains and stood there to sing the last few lines of his closing song with no band and no microphone. It was pretty much awesome. I wish I could have recorded it but I don’t think I would have picked up his voice with out a mic. That guy can sing though!
This one is the fan favorite right now, this was the ONLY song he was a tiny bit pitchy on, I think his ear things weren’t working cause he kept messing with them. He still did pretty awesome with it though!
ANYWAYS Here is Michael's entrance.
He was really down to earth, had tons of stop and talk time, he spoke to people in the audience frequently, including this little girl in the front row. He said... "Hello, what is your name?"
She said "Miranda"
He said "Hi Miranda, I'm Michael thanks for coming to my show I really appreciate it..."
she started crying! It was funny he was cracking jokes and having fun the whole time. He did a Michael Jackson impersonation and he wasn’t bad... Billy Jean. At one point too he started singing Jason Mraz's "I'm yours" then said "Man I wish I wrote that song..." haha. Matt and I both agreed that he seemed like his stardom hasn't gotten to him and he is genuinely excited to see and meet his fans, He's "just a guy getting paid for what we all do in the shower" (he said that with a big smile and a chuckle to follow saying "Singing people, singing!") In this video i kept trying to get Matt... but turns out its just black ehh oh well.
