Happy Father's Day to Matt

Boy am I a lucky gal. I am married to one fantastic guy. I am not super clever like Matt to write a awesomely funny blog post, but I did interview the kids separately and got some insight to how they feel about their Daddy and what they think makes him tick. I got a good laugh at their answers.

What can I say, my kids are some lucky ducks having Matt as their Father. Not a day goes by that he isn't trying to be better and do better for them.

Ty's 6th Birthday Party!

Ty had his Birthday party this year at Bricks and Minifigs. It's a store that sells all LEGO's. Just recently he's gotten really in to LEGO's, specifically LEGO Ninjago. Luckily Aunt Kytla is excellent at Photoshop (or whatever its called) so she whipped him up an awesome invitation that I printed to mail out to friends. We hand delivered to all his church friends. Then I went to his class list to find the addresses of his school friends and wouldn't you know it, all their were on the list was EMAIL addresses. DOH! So I sent the digital copy of the invitation.

I had RSVP's trickle in, until about 2 days before. One of Ty's school friends Jackson kept telling his mom about Ty's party. SHe hadn't seen my e-mail so she text me and asked about it. She said Jackson keeps saying it's Ty's Birthday party but she hadn't seen anything but she didn't want to have Jackson inviting himself etc. etc. I told her it was e-mailed so I went to pull back up the e-mail I sent to parents and wouldn't you know it I put my cell phone number in the e-mail and typed it in WRONG! It was right on the invite, but wrong on my e-mail. Anyway, so I sent out another quick e-mail with the RIGHT info and then got all the RSVP's. Everyone Ty invited came besides one of his friends Sahib.

He had a great time at the party playing LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones on the XBOX. They built LEGO cars and raced them and also got to build two minifigs of their own to bring home.

Now for the picture dump. It was REALLY nice of Landon's mom to stick around. Matt and I were in a bit over our heads just handling our own kids let alone 9 other boys. Gracie was crawling everywhere and trying to eat the LEGO's so Landon's Mom Nicole was holding her a lot of the time. I appreciated that.

Ty really liked being with his friends and all the LEGO's and other things he received. He has been building one a day since his party and he still hasn't built all his new LEGO sets.

Grandpa Spence sent him some money to get something and now he can't decide what he wants to get, probably more LEGO's or transformers. But he may surprise us, today he asked to get a wave runner... yeah that is more money than he has that is for sure. haha

Also for his Birthday I put up a FB status a week before hand saying if any of my friends had time, to send a quick note, letter or card by snail mail. Ty LOVES to check the mail, and if anything is for him he keeps it for weeks. He had an OUT POURING of cards, letters, treats, and pictures. He is still getting some! He got a few cards yesterday too! I don't have a final picture since he hasn't hung up the last 5 cards he got yesterday, but here is one I took a week ago of all the things he had received.

I was really touched by it too. Ty told me it made his heart happy to see all his cards and pictures. I agreed, it made my heart happy too.

So Ty's favorites right now as a six year old,

His favorite part of school is choice time so he can draw pictures
He ran 10 laps at the school fun run (only 2 boys in the whole Kindergarten beat him with 11 and he was REAL bummed about it)
His Favorite food is Watermelon and Apples and Pizza

He also took what is called a CogAT test this year. He was chosen as the top 20% of Kindergartners to take the test. He took the test and we got the letter last night saying that he is in the top 10% of the Kindergartners in the school district and that next year when he is in 1st grade, he won't need to request to test for the EXCEL program (I am not sure if this is right or not, correct me if I am wrong someone) he will be given the test on October 1st and will be placed in the EXCEL program next winter (if he passes the test) if we so choose. Anyway, turns out we have a smarty pants on our hands. He got all 3's and a few 4's on his report card. 3 meaning at grade level and 4 meaning above grade level. I told him I was going to bring my camera and take a picture of him with Mrs. Wahlstrom on the last day of school and he told me no, he has enough pictures of her in his yearbook and his Kindergarten memory book. He is a funny little guy.

To the beach!

These last few days have been nice and toasty. We've been loving the perfect mid 80's that June has given us so far. I know I have a lot of catching up to on the blog, but no time like the present to post what I have.

Friday night was the school carnival. We hadn't been, (Clearly since Ty is a Kindergartner) but it was a great time. They had 2 jumpy houses, a slide, an obstacle course, tons of carnival games, caricature drawings, balloon animals, cookie walks, food, popsicles... the works!

We bought our tickets there, because I was a little nervous about it. I mean, loads of people, lots of un-organization, hot weather = unhappy mom.

Luckily it wasn't like that... well it was but I was okay with it.

We bought 20 tickets for each child and a couple raffle tickets for each child to choose where to use them. The school had 33 different baskets to put raffle tickets towards. Ty May Em and I cruised through, everyone looked at where they wanted to put their tickets. Of course Ty chose two different LEGO themed baskets. Maylee and Emma were a little more eclectic with their choices. One of them was a fun in the sun basket.

Anyhow we headed out to do the slides first, which were a lot steeper and higher than they looked! 

I went with Emma and I was super pleased with May for going by herself. Then we did the obstacle course and Matt went with Emma that time while Ty and Maylee went on their own. 

Then we started into the jumpy houses. The kids were just in heaven bouncing around outside. Ty then noticed the carnival games to with yellow tickets, so he could win a prize. He found Plinko and hopped in line. While in line Matt stood with the stroller and Ty and I went in to look at the prizes and how many tickets to try to get. While in there we noticed they started the drawings for the baskets. We didn't see our name so we went back out and tried plinko. Ty went first, they had to roll a die then whatever number they got, they had two tries to get the same number at the bottom that they rolled. Yeah Yeah I know confusing. So Ty didn't win. He was a little upset but not bad, until BOTH the girls one. They got 2 tickets each to spend on prizes. Ty and I went back in to the Gym to see again how many tickets he needed. While in there we checked the raffles again. Wouldn't you know it we WON! Ty was real excited. We walked back to Matt and Grace in the stroller. Matt was chatting with friends. I grabbed the girls and they went in to redeem their tickets. They both chose teeny little pink stuffed alligators. When they came back to Ty he started BAWLING that he didn't get a prize and they his raffle tickets weren't chosen and that the whole basket was for the girls. He was probably jsut tired, but the crying ensued for about 30 minutes. Matt was just chatting away though and we had a few tickets left so we tried to spend them but the carnival was over and everywhere was closing up shop. More tears... ugh so I opened the basket and found a teeny prize and said to Ty is was just for him. He was appeased and disappeared with the girls to the playground. Grace was totally chill the whole time.

SO minus the RIDICULOUS tears from Ty, the carnival was really fun for everyone and we'll definitely go back next year. Our kids just have the magic raffle touch. Somehow they always end up winning, even though we ALWAYS tell them that we most likely wont win anything.

With our newly won fun in the sun basket, Saturday morning it was nice and toasty so by 9 am the kids were in the front yard running around in swimsuits. The basket was full of fun games like badminton, water balloons, squirt guns, a mini glow in the dark football, frisbees, a kite... and of course sunscreen.

After getting some yard work done we were playing in the front yard. A neighbor drove by and Matt asked her where we could go to play in the water. She suggested Wintler Park. We had never heard of it so we looked it up. Apparently it was like a beach, with nice sand and shallow water off of the Columbia river. We packed lunches, an umbrella and some towels and off we went. Turns out Wintler Park parking is crazy small, and no where else near was available so Matt busted out his phone and we found another spot a bit further down. We got lost a few times, but finally found a place and settled in. It was so nice! It was just like the beach, but it was a river.

 Had to stop and reapply more sunscreen.

We all played for near 3 hours then headed home.

When we got back some friends of ours the Thomas's invited us to Round Lake for a potluck dinner with some other families. We grabbed a Pizza and a fruit salad and were out the door again.

We really enjoyed the beautiful weather and we are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Ty told me he was really happy we found a beach so close instead of the usual beach that is near 2 hours away (Canon Beach).
