I went to a funeral today, it was my second one. First being Portia Bybee who was a little girl. So really it was the first time that I had really known and enjoyed having a genuine friendship with the person. He was a friend to me at work. He was a loan officer, one of Cindy's clients. Erick was ALWAYS happy and always wanting to know how everything was going with Matt (he wanted to come play ball with Matt), school, and life in general. It kind of hit me hard when I found out he passed away so unexpectedly (unfortunately it was suicide). It reminded me that you really never know what is going on with anyone else and the best thing to do is treat everyone you come in contact with, with the utmost respect and kindness. You just never know. I didn't cry, but I was definitely sad. I knew his wife and kids and cant imagine what they are going through. Erick will be missed.

Erick Lorenzo Caver 11/7/1965 ~ 8/24/2008 South Jordan, Utah Surrounded by his loving family and friends Erick passed peacefully Sunday morning, Aug 24th. He is reunited with his beloved Grandmother Rochelle Ford and mother Sybil (Goldie) Delores Ford Caver. Erick was born and raised in Calera, Alabama. He graduated from Calera High School and the University of Anchorage where he earned his Business Management degree. Erick also served in the Army from 1987-90 and was based in Alaska. He loved basketball and played for the Army, the University of Anchorage and internationally. He spent much of his free time playing basketball and coaching his son's basketball team. He was a greatly loved and respected coach inspiring all who knew him. Erick was also known for his generous and giving heart. He volunteered his talents to raise funds for various causes and was always helping those in need. He is survived by his loving wife Leeanne; children Erica, Alexandria, Bradley, Savanna, Isaiah and Chontell Edwards; siblings Eddie Caver Jr, Angela McLean; uncles Henry and David Ford and Ned Whitehead; aunt Henrietta (Alex) Nelms and Elizabeth Espitia. Erick, your family and friends love you and will miss you greatly. You were a light to many. We know we will see you and your smile again. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 1 p.m. at Highland South Jordan Stake Center, 10200 S. 4000 W., South Jordan, with the viewing one hour prior to services. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Rd, West Jordan. Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. WOAH NELLY!
So University of Utah is uhhh different then BYU, i'll just say that. Sorry but I don't like the "different" feel. I think it can just be more motivation for me to work as hard as possible to get done as soon as possible. My "fun" college years are definitely behind me.
With the loss of my job both Matt and I have made ourselves physically sick with worry. Neither of us have been sleeping or doing anything right and it seems like when you are down people just like to kick you. For example, I finally sat down and filled out our insurance info with investools and gave the paperwork to Matt to turn into HR. I had noticed that it said we had 30 days from his start date to sign up and I pointed that out to Matt. We had expired by that time. Matt on the other hand didn't seem to vex himself about it so I didn't worry. Unfortunately, it was a problem and his work has denied us Health and Dental insurance until the next enrolment date which I believe is sometime in December. If it were just ME I wouldn't be worried BUT with how accident prone my husband is, it makes me a little nervous. He rolls or brakes something frequently, lets hope he doesn't hurt himself in the next 3-4 months. (votes on if he hurts himself playing thanksgiving day football? )So jobless and insurance-less is how I started my day at 6 am driving up to the U. Grim eh?
THEN I got home to a few voice mails on my answering machine, one was from my aunt Sharon whom I used to work for at Meridian, she said check your e~mail and call me. I checked it then called her laughing. One of her clients,a guy that does really big commercial deals with Meridian, wrote and e~mail to the bosses saying,
"All,
I understand the need to tighten belts, but I hope that the first person you bring back is Mickie. She has been an invaluable assistant to Sharon. I will miss her a lot.
Best of luck.

So that was a bit of a pick me up. Glad to know I was doing something right at Meridian. The next voice mail was from my mom seeing how school was, then the next was from my friend Jeff he actually works a lot with Meridian as well as the Broker for Garbett Real Estate a builder we worked closely with.
I called him back and to my surprise he offered me a job! Of course I was excited and accepted it, (http://www.garbetthomes.com/) I will be in their main office across from the capital building working as Jeff and another RE agents assistant. It's a long commute but with the U just up the street it wont be so bad. It's considered full time but basically I just need to make sure I am doing all of my work and it will be fine with school. I will start next Monday. I will have more details later in the week but for now Matt and I can actually breathe easy and sleep well. What a blessing, I am glad to be out of that slump and hope that this works out great for Matt and I.
Oh, and for those concerned, I don't necessarily consider myself a work-a-holic and if I could I wouldn't BUT with my goal of getting an education that makes it difficult for Matt to make enough money for both of us to go at the same time and juggle bills. Hopefully soon we can figure something out, but for now I work so I can go to school.
Matt and I were truly blessed with this new job and thank those who thought, prayed, and put in a good word or two here and there for me. Oh and I did call my mom back to let her know the good news.

Some of you know, Some of you dont...
Friday was my last day at Meridian Title. The business had slowed down tremendously and I was working on staying busy a lot. With that being said I did nothing wrong but they had to lay me off. I only cried once or twice after I left of course, but I know I will miss it. I'll miss the friends, the customers, and the fun I had over there. I actually really liked my job. It put Matt and I in a whirl wind trying to figure out how we are going to pay for school and bills. With him starting his new job he has done great BUT we aren't as financially prepared as we should have been for just such an occasion, Tough. SO Monday I start the job search. Anyone know of a good job I can do? We decided it would still be best for me to continue my college education so I'll have to find a job that can work around that. Considering the bulk of my classes are in the evening starting at 6 or 7, I am hoping it wont be too hard to find a new job. Part Time/Full Time, Let me know if you guys hear of anything. Prayers are always appreciated too :)

A Comedy of Errors
Friday morning started off like any other day, we were a little late and little tired but relieved with the thought of it being the last work day in the week. Matt had been having a killer week at work and was told that he would not have to go in on Saturday because he had done so well. As we pulled out of our subdivision the gas light came on. Matt asked “Do you want me to stop off for gas?” I responded no because I could get it on my lunch. Well I dropped Matt off and headed over to work. This is probably about 20 miles so far. A co-worker had to go teach a continuing education class for some mortgage brokers at Famous Dave’s, a BBQ place up the road and had asked me to help him out. He asked if we should ride together or separate, I told him separate because I needed get some gas on the way. Well I left a tiny bit late (do you see a recurring trend? I am not normally a late person but Friday for some reason I was) so I didn’t have time to get gas. I knew the light had been on for a while but Famous Dave’s was only a mile or so away. I got to Famous Dave’s and spoke with the hostess about the meeting. She wasn’t sure what I was talking about so she went and found her manager. After about 5 minutes the Manager found out that the meeting was at the West Jordan location. Apparently Chris had made the same mistake and had taken off for the West Jordan location as well. I had no idea where it was so after I got the address I was on my way.
I got in the car and I had a message, it was Laura a co-worker telling me what I already knew and Chris obviously didn’t have my phone number to tell me. Well I called Laura back at the office and asked her the fastest way to get there because she lived over by there and she said take 7200 south the whole way. Well now I am REALLY late and the whole reason I was going to help was to sign people in and get the proper documentation ready for the class. I told Laura “my E light is on, but I enjoy walking on the wild side” and she said “Okay I’ll knock on wood”. After passing about 7 gas stations I am driving along and all of the sudden (or so it seemed) the car just shut off. I thought what is wrong with the car? Then I realize, oh my goodness I ran out of gas! I have never done that before so I had no idea what to expect. I flicked on my emergency blinkers and coasted to the very conveniently placed wide shoulder of the road. Oddly enough, and a tiny tender mercy, there was no shoulder on the road the whole way except for that little 50 foot stretch of shoulder. I got on the phone again and called Meridian, somewhat embarrassed, but more worried about Chris over at the West Jordan Famous Dave’s wondering where the HECK I was! I got a hold of Laura again and said “DID YOU KNOCK ON WOOD? Well, it didn’t work. I ran out of gas.” After a chuckle from Laura she said she had a gas can at her house and would come get me to go get the gas can and get some gas. How NICE of her! So knowing it would be a while I thought that I had better call Chris. I called Meridian back and got his number. I called Chris he didn’t answer, OF COURSE he didn’t answer he didn’t recognize my brother Colton’s 541 number but I left a voicemail for him stating I was running quite late but would be there in probably 30 minutes or so.
Anyways, I then decide to call Matt and tell him that I ran out of gas and that is was kind of funny. While I was waiting on hold for Matt, I get a call from Sharon (My boss and also my aunt). Well being the techno-looser that I am, I have no idea how to switch lines, so I tell Matt about everything and he tells me he is having kind of a ruff day himself. After I spoke with Matt I called Sharon back, she then Sharon then informs me that Laura, while pulling out of the parking lot was hit by someone who was pulling a random U turn. Sharon didn’t know if she was okay or not but was coming to get me instead with my uncle Jason who also works at Meridian. WELL YIKES! After hanging up with Sharon I called the front desk to make sure everything was okay with Laura. It was a tiny fender bender but she was waiting for the cops to come because apparently the guy that hit her didn’t own the car and wasn’t really sure which of his “friends” owned the car (He was crazy). Mean while Chris was at Famous Dave’s wondering what is taking so long. Finally Sharon got a hold of him and sent 2 other guys in my place to go and help. Poor Chris feels like he took out the whole office in one miscommunication!
So Sharon and Jason finally came and got me and we headed over to Target to get a gas can and got a quick bite to eat (Yeah no Famous Dave’s I was so looking forward to it! It was my own fault I didn’t get any) Then over to a gas station and back to the car. Jason helped me fill up the tank with my 2 gallon gas can and I drove right over to the gas station to fill up. Also, I got poor Laura a Code Red Mtn. Dew (her favorite) because I felt so bad. So let’s see, I left the office at about 11:15 am and by the time I got back it was 2 pm. MAN that was a long lunch right? Oh and Laura was done with the accident and luckily there was no real damage to her truck but the guy’s car was pretty smashed. Good thing her truck was okay because the guy didn’t have any insurance. Go figure. SO about 30 minutes later I tell Matt about the whole fiasco and I find that he had a really bad day as well and now has to go in on Saturday. LAME! When I came to pick him up after work neither of us were in very good moods unfortunately… It was definitely a series of unfortunate events, miscommunications, a little walking on the wild side by taking unnecessary risks, a brain dead driver, and just plain bad luck. Sheesh.
All I can say is thank goodness for Colton's cell phone...

Hair and football 2 of my favorite things
So today I went to the Maxwell's and Trish did my hair. Yippee I am a new women. I love it! Thank you so much it looks awesome. Also, tonight we went to the annual BYU Cougar Kickoff. We got quite a few signatures on the back of our 2008 Women's Clinic shirts. In the picture you cant tell but Suzanne scored a pretty cool BYU Women's Softball long sleeve. I also got my parents 4 flags for the cars and my dad a sweater vest. Matt scored a new pair of cleats too. All the stuff is so inexpensive and the only reason they are selling it is because it is last years gear.
So funny story, Holly (Matt's mom), must have taught him really well how to buy shoes. He STILL says "Mick, feel my toe" so I feel it and he's got about an inch to the top and I say "Those are too big" and he says "No, I think you are supposed to have growing room." "No Matt you are not supposed to leave growing room when you are 25, shoes should not be big anymore like that. Its safe to buy shoes that fit now :)" He's so funny. He thinks he is a size 12, but really he is a size 10 1/2 or 11.

Broken Computer
I know what you guys are thinking “What the 2 post’s is going on with the Spence’s?” Yes, well I thought I would post something because tomorrow I am taking my computer into our IT guy here at work to have him look at it. It’s all screwed up and we need it in tip top shape for the upcoming semester. Who knows how long it will take to fix so here is a good one with pictures and every thing.
2 Saturdays ago Matt and his friend Ryan went and played football. Of course my accident prone husband rolled his ankle and here it is black a blue.
I believe this picture was taken about a week later though. It generally takes him about 3 weeks to heal something like that so bummer for him! He just got out of school and has free time after work to go play and cant because his ankle is hosed. Good news is we have Aflac. Bad news is we haven’t completed our health insurance stuff for Investools so we couldn’t go in or we would have to pay full price.
Next is last Friday we had a little family toe party. Suzanne and I look like goofs.
It was a long night of sparkles but all and all they all looked beautiful! 
It was great to talk and chat with cousins and aunts.
Matt and I bought our season ALLSPORT passes for BYU again this year. They were tricky to get we had to have one of our friends Derek who just got off his mission to help us get the tickets and they were a little more expensive but so worth it. We are very excited for the upcoming Football, Basketball, and Volleyball seasons.

That evening Suzanne Kristin Sierra and I wanted to go see Pride and Prejudice the Musical at the scera outdoor theatre but after driving there in a down pour we decided not to stay and meet the guys for bowling. We are thinking we will have to go this weekend to the outdoor show. 
I bowled the worst game of my life. Oh well I think it was the shorts so the shorts were not taken in this picture, sorry guys no action shot. haha.
How about those Olympics Eh? Michael Phelps is a stud! I am so glad that the USA beat France in that relay too. Both Matt and I were on our feet yelling and screaming at the TV cheering on the team to win. I should have gotten it on video we were so exited!
The Olympics always make me more patriotic. I also am excited for Track and Field those events are always exciting!
In other news Matt and I have school starting on the 25th and it is going to be pretty dang expensive and time consuming. Welcome to college life right? We have been there all along but this semester especially seems to be pretty intimidating. Matt loves his new job but has no opportunity to work on school work at all during work like he did at the last job. I have a feeling life will be Sleep, Work, School, Homework, Eat, and maybe squeeze in some weekend fun. Let’s hope we can handle it all! It will take a lot of hard work and effort but in the end it’s always worth it!

Until,
We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.
The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?
Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said: "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one...
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you have grand kids, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or your home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy...
Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
I thought this was a good story to pass along. For Matt and I it is a very good reminder to live in the moment. Both of us are very driven people who know what we want and work hard to get there as soon as possible. We have big dreams and hopes for what life will bring and I think sometimes we forget to stop and breathe!
The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?
Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said: "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one...
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you have grand kids, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or your home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy...
Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
I thought this was a good story to pass along. For Matt and I it is a very good reminder to live in the moment. 2008 BYU Womens Clinic
First of all Iwant to ask if anyone sees a good deal on a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5 camera to give me a shout out. A good deal is under 300 dollars. I just so happen to be in the market for another one.
Okay now on to the GOOD STUFF! Football camp was awesome! All the guys that I work with get so jealous every year when I get back from camp because I can tell them all about the coaches and players AND i have a hot off the press media guide. I am kind of a guy when it comes to BYU Football okay scratch that I am TOTALLY a guy when it comes to BYU Football. I know stats, I know players, I know positions I know new recruits, I know coaches etc etc. In fact my boss claims I even know most of their mothers maiden names which I don't of course that is absurd. So this morning for example I spoke to my friend Chris about all the players and we swap info on articles we've read recently. This happens about every other day. EVEN during the off season.
Anyways so here is the syrup. If you check Kristin's blog you have all ready seen these pictures so sorry. I figured there were enough bloggers that didn't check my sisters blog that checked mine so they were worth posting.
We ate, took tours of the press box and the locker room. While up in the press box we meet Charles Cox the sound guy for BYU. I asked him if he had ever seen the goofy movie and he said no. I said well there is this part when Max the main character is leaving school and the whole school is chanting MAX MAX MAX I said will you play that at a game? ( the starting QB is Max Hall) he said sure e~mail it to me. Well little problem. I cant find it on-line on you tube and it isn't on the sound track that I own. We have the movie on VHS but I don't know how to get the sound clip and send it to him. Any suggestions? I am about the just e~mail him and tell him that I am going to buy the movie for him online on DVD so he can just FWD to the part and play it over the loud speakers but I don't think that will work. Let me know if you know a way.
ANYWAYS Bronco did a little talking and I told Holly before hand that Bronco is very articulate and well spoken. Afterwards she thoroughly agreed with me that he was. He is such a good coach! Then we spoke with the players and broke for discussion with the coach's. After that we ran drills got pictures and autographs. I highly recommend this for any women who is a football fan. Its GREAT and helps you feel more connected to the player on the field as more then just a # on a jersey. That helps Kristin A lot.
In other news I got my hair cut today and its so cute! I haven't had it cut since Sept. of last year so it needed a good trim. The gal did a fabulous job. I will for sure be going back again. Oh just in case you are wondering when I got in the car Matt said it didn't look any different... It looked good but not different. :)

Well since I lost my camera
Steph posted pictures on her blog that my cousin Art took up at solitude, so I stole one to post on my blog. Thanks Steph! It actually was A GORGEOUS day. So here you go. Good news is Matt and I think we'll be able to have the cash for a new camera by football season. First game is Aug 30th. We are working hard at it :)All in all the last week has been good. Matt finished up his finals for English and Math and he feels like he fared well with those. We'll find out next week what kind of grades he'll get.
Last Thursday for me was the 2008 BYU Women's Football Clinic. It was AWESOME of course. As soon as Kristin has a minute she'll post some pictures that I'll steal from her. Until next time....
